Transfer News: Jose Mourinho wants AS Roma to target Manchester United target Paulo Dybala

According to the Italian publication Il Corriere dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Jose Mourinho is demanding that AS Roma must target Paulo Dybala, who is now linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. The Portuguese boss remains optimistic about securing the forward’s services, plus he is also eager to strike a deal with the attacker.

Dybala’s proposed move to Inter Milan has come to a halt at this point which has paved the way for other interested parties to try their cards once again. He is currently a free agent, and suitors like Roma and AC Milan are keen to get their hands on the former Juventus man as a result.

Mourinho believes the Argentine ace is “the only striker who can help Roma make a step forward in terms of quality”. That has caused the ex-Real Madrid coach to pressure his club to sign Dybala, who is also touted as a potential option for the Red Devils.

What’s next for Dybala?

Surprisingly enough, it is thought that Man United do not view Dybala as a feasible option even with the opportunity to sign him for free. That is even more puzzling, considering how the 28-year-old has already reached a verbal agreement with Inter for a salary package of €6million a year plus another €1 million in add-ons.

Those wage demands are not too outrageous, especially considering how signing the South American would not dent our transfer budget for this summer. Fortunately for us, Milan and Mourinho’s side cannot match the Nerazzurri‘s offer right now, which still puts us in contention to an extent.

That means Mourinho’s efforts would be in vain if his club fails to match the current proposal that is on the table. Since we have deemed the signing of a forward a necessity at this moment, perhaps our viewpoint on Dybala may just change with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to leave this summer.

Dybala would not be a like-for-like replacement for Ronaldo, but he could offer Erik ten Hag quite a different set of options to work with. Ten Hag could replicate what he did with Dusan Tadic at Ajax by using the Argentinian star in the false nine role.

At the same time, ten Hag could also utilise Dybala on the right-wing where we lack options while using Marcus Rashford as a striker, for example. Dybala’s knack for cutting inside and creating opportunities while offering a goalscoring threat can be taken advantage of to a great extent in this position.

In any case, only time will give the fans an answer on this front about whether the Mancunians would actively pursue Dybala this summer. Roma’s limitation in terms of the financial package has given us some room to work with, but it would always be best to reach an early consensus about this subject.
