Manchester United prioritise forward signing following Cristiano Ronaldo setback

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have prioritised the signing of a forward this summer following the setback they suffered at the hands of Cristiano Ronaldo. His intention to leave Old Trafford has put the club in a precarious situation, prompting them to take this stance.

Ronaldo has not turned up for training sessions under Erik ten Hag, with him being the only player who failed to arrive so far. He will not travel with the squad for the opening phase after citing “family reasons” as the cause for his absence. That has forced Man United’s hands to change their plans for this summer.

The Red Devils have now deemed reinforcement in the attacking department a priority as they are at risk of losing Ronaldo in this transfer window. There are plans to make additions in the defence, but that will now depend on whether they can make significant sales in those positions.

Ten Hag in dilemma!

It is quite frustrating to see how things have panned out with Cristiano in recent times. After all, the fans have made suggestions that he should have revealed his stance much earlier than putting the Manchester side in such a delicate situation.

Then again, our transfer business is one of the reasons behind the Portuguese international’s decision, which would not have been known earlier. Hence, Ronaldo’s stance is understandable to an extent, although it would be best if he remains in Manchester beyond this summer.

However, we cannot simply hope for that outcome as plans must be laid down to prepare for a worst-case scenario. After losing Edinson Cavani and potentially seeing Ronaldo leave, we would be left with no natural options in the centre-forward department.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are makeshift strikers at best which makes our current stance understandable indeed. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Carrington, but only time will tell whether there is any meaningful interest from our side.

Then again, the supporters would hope that this change in plans would not risk their ability to reinforce the backline. They would at least be given some relief by the fact that sales can help ten Hag get a new centre-back and right-back as he desires in the summer transfer window.

The Manchester club is open to selling several players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly ahead of the next season. Whether they can be moved out or not, though, would need to be seen.
