Manchester United are increasingly interested in Leicester City star Youri Tielemans
According to journalist Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Golazo on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Manchester United have expressed a “growing” interest in signing Leicester City star Youri Tielemans on a potential transfer move this summer. He has continued to be subjected to links with an exit from his club ahead of the next season.
Man United are in the mix to sign Tielemans as they look to improve the options in their squad to back Erik ten Hag. Now, it is claimed that they are increasingly interested in securing the midfielder’s services and could even table an offer to Leicester in the process.
Arsenal are also in the running for the Belgian international, but it is stated that there is no truth in the suggestion that they have made an offer for him. However, they could also place a bid to strike a deal with the Foxes, who have not received any proposals for Tielemans so far.
Tielemans to become an active target?
The midfield is one such area that could use several reinforcements after the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard. We are close to completing a move for Christian Eriksen, with Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona being another target for ten Hag.
However, two additions may not be enough to maintain the squad depth, especially factoring in how we need a strong lineup to battle against Manchester City and Liverpool, for example. Furthermore, the rule change that imposes five substitutions gives all the more reason to increase quality in the centre of the pitch.
As such, signing Tielemans, who is only nearing the prime years of his playing career, would be an attractive prospect indeed. Moreover, his vast Premier League experience is another factor that makes him a great option to help with the rebuild we are trying to facilitate this summer.
However, the 25-year-old’s preference to move to Emirates would undoubtedly be concerning if the Red Devils decide to actively pursue the midfielder. The Manchester-based club are not helped by the fact that Tielemans is Mikel Arteta’s first preference ahead of Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Not to mention, the Gunners have deemed the central midfield a priority area, so they could perhaps look to ramp up their efforts in response to our increased interest. In any case, we must be ready to make a move for Tielemans at the earliest if we stand a chance at signing him.
After all, giving Arteta’s side enough time would not be wise since they are benefiting from Tielemans’s choice as of now. But Man United must not let up as we may just prise away the midfielder from Brendan Rodgers on a cut-price deal with his contract expiring next summer.
