Tottenham Hotspur eyeing Manchester United target Pau Torres despite closing in on Clement Lenglet signing
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are still planning to sign Manchester United target Pau Torres, despite edging close to completing a deal for Clement Lenglet. The Barcelona star is set to move to N17 on a season-long loan move to plug the need for a left-sided centre-back.
However, Tottenham are still keeping their eyes on Torres with the hopes of signing him this summer. They have been interested in his services for quite a long time which could be problematic for Man United. After all, the latter is keen to add him to their ranks ahead of the next season.
Villarreal have set an asking price of £45million for the Spaniard’s signature, but whether any of the two English clubs would meet that fee or not remains to be seen. A swap deal involving Giovani Lo Celso and Torres was touted to be on the cards, but fortunately for the Red Devils, things have not made any progress on that front so far.
Should Man Utd worry about Spurs?
Spurs have already made quite some rumblings in the transfer market as they look to support Antonio Conte with the right signings. Their decision to keep targeting Torres despite being close to signing Lenglet is understandable as the latter has not performed to his best in a while.
So we must remain wary of the North Londoners for that very reason, as they could scupper our plans when it comes to our pursuit of Torres. Lenglet would probably be a backup option as they had to shift Ben Davies to the centre-back role to meet their needs last season.
In any case, we must be on our toes at all times, but our pursuit of Lisandro Martinez does raise some questions when it comes to Torres. After all, Martinez of Ajax is the main target for us right now, so it will be interesting to see how that would affect our interest in the Villarreal defender.

Furthermore, it is also stated that ten Hag’s side could contemplate offering Alex Telles in a cash plus exchange deal for Torres. But doubts can be raised on that plan of ours when a swap deal with Lo Celso and Conte’s team is a much better prospect for Unai Emery’s side.
After all, Lo Celso was excellent for the Spanish club when he was on loan with them last season. Hence, our potential plan to offer Telles may not hold much weight in that regard. In any case, let’s keep an eye out to see how our pursuit to sign Martinez develops, which may just paint a clear picture of our interest in Torres.
