Transfer News: Feyenoord star Tyrell Malacia decides to join Manchester United this summer
According to the French outlet L’Equipe via United Zone on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Feyenoord star Tyrell Malacia has now made up his mind to join Manchester United in this summer transfer window. The English side looks to have succeeded in hijacking the left-back from Olympique Lyonnais with a late move.
Lyon seemingly appeared to have finalised a move for Malacia with a €13million bid plus €2million in add-ons. However, Man United entered at the last minute with an improved offer of €15million up front with a further €2million in add-ons and reached an agreement with the Dutch club.
The Red Devils’ agreement with the Eredivisie side also includes a sell-on clause which means that Feyenoord will get a percentage of any future sale. Fabrizio Romano had claimed earlier that the English club is now engaged in direct talks with the Dutch international’s representatives and has even placed an offer on the table as of now.
Malacia, a necessary signing?
If that is the case, then this latest update regarding the 22-year-old’s decision could potentially be true after all. It is even stated that Malacia has conveyed the matter to Lyon, which could indicate that he is close to becoming our first signing of this transfer window.
Furthermore, it is also claimed that the French club had a failed attempt to scupper our plans with an improved offer which was rejected in the end. They raised their proposal by €1million after we entered the transfer race, but the attempt was unsuccessful in the end.
One could argue that Malacia’s signing could not have come at a perfect time, looking at our current situation in the left-back slot. That is because Luke Shaw could not build on his impressive spell in the 2020-21 campaign, while Alex Telles failed to turn things around even under Ralf Rangnick.
Brandon Williams, meanwhile, looks set to be shown the exit doors, whereas Alvaro Fernandez is not ready to play a regular part in the first-team set-up. That means our pursuit of Malacia could perhaps suggest that Fernandez will probably be loaned out to help with his development.
As for Shaw and Telles, one of them could be seeing the end of the road at Old Trafford, with the latter possibly being the one, having failed to impress since leaving Porto to join us. Now, the Manchester club would need to focus their efforts on finding common ground with Malacia regarding the personal terms.

Now that Malacia has decided on moving to Carrington, we may not need to worry about the Ligue 1 side anymore. That being said, it is always best to act quickly and agree to terms as soon as possible to prevent any potential setbacks in the future.
