Transfer News: Manchester United enter the race for Youri Tielemans
According to The Times, Manchester United have entered the race for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans with the Belgian midfielder working his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans for next season.
Arsenal are also keen on the midfielder and even had a headstart on the race. It has now emerged that the Gunners’ interest has cooled down in recent weeks and Man United are set to jump into the race.
With a contract that expires next summer and the player failing to renew a new deal with the Foxes, he could be available on a cut-price deal this summer. Man United could swoop in ahead of Arsenal to sign the talented midfielder.
It must be noted that Man United’s priority targets in midfield appear to be Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen. However, a player of Tielemans quality on a bargain does not come around often and he will definitely be worth it.
The 25-year-old played 49 times for Brendan Rodger’s side last season scoring seven goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Tielemans is the perfect box-to-box midfielder a manager can ask for, capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch.
Midfield is an area that has been a sore thumb for Man United for quite a few seasons now. Now, even more with the departures that have ensued, the Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcements ahead of next season.
Man United must seriously consider the prospect of signing Tielemans if he is willing to come here. At 25, he is still very young and partnering him with De Jong would be one of the best decisions the Red Devils could make.
