Transfer News: West Ham are closing in on a move for Jesse Lingard after Manchester United exit
According to Daily Mail, West Ham are closing in on a move for talented out-of-contract English midfielder Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.
Having failed to pen down a new deal with the Red Devils with his contract set to expire this summer, Lingard is set to leave Man United for free. A product of the famed United academy, the Englishman has had moments to cherish in a Man Utd shirt.
A very talented player who was destined for the very best in the game of football, Lingard has failed to reach the heights envisioned for him. Regardless of that, he has still had a very decent career until now and has many years of football left in him.
Breaking into the first team in 2014, the talented attacking midfielder had a few amazing years at Old Trafford initially before completely falling off a cliff in between. He was subsequently loaned out to West Ham United where he rediscovered his mojo.
Having played 232 games for the Red Devils scoring 35 goals and providing 21 assists across all competitions, his numbers have not been dismal, to say the least. Whilst he certainly would have been hoping to show more consistency, he has still had a pretty good career.
This season, Lingard managed a paltry 22 appearances for Man United scoring twice and assisting once across all competitions. It has become increasingly evident that the English playmaker has to make a switch to restart his career.
West Ham United are set to provide Lingard with the perfect opportunity to revive his career. Adored by the fans since his time there on loan and trusted by David Moyes, it comes as no surprise that Lingard considers moving back to the Hammers.
Fully expected to play an important role in Moyes’ team, it could now be the time for Lingard to show to the Premier League what he is capable of. At 29, it’s now or never for the Englishman and he will want to take up this chance.

Regardless of what has happened, Lingard has had his moments of brilliance at Old Trafford. We must always be grateful for that and wish the very best for him in the future.
A repeat of his loan spell at West Ham- granted he moves there- could be enough for him to make the plane for Qatar with Gareth Southgate’s men later this year.
