Transfer News: Manchester United really interested in signing Ajax winger Antony

According to popular Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are really interested in signing Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax this summer.

Antony joined Ajax from Sau Paulo in 2020 and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the best young wingers in Europe. He has been one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players at Amsterdam over the past couple of seasons.

The 22-year-old Brazilian forward has played 32 times for the Eredivisie giants this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions. The talented Ajax man has a contract until 2025 and the Dutch champions could hold out for big money since they would be in no real rush to sell him.

Romano claims that Manchester United are not the only club interested in the talented Brazilian but Erik ten Hag is said to be really pushing to sign the player this summer despite the fact that it will be expensive.

Solid signing?

Whilst Man United might not be needing a winger as a priority this summer, Antony will still be a great addition to the team.

Signing Antony would mean that Manchester United will have an amazing quartet of wingers. The Brazilian will provide competition to Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho and even challenge for a starting berth.

The 22-year-old has the advantage of having played in Erik ten Hag’s team before and would have absolutely no trouble fitting in at Old Trafford. If anything, he would be more comfortable fitting into the Dutch tactician’s plans than the other players here.

If other clubs are interested in the player, then Manchester United will have to act fast and wrap up a deal this summer. Such interest from elsewhere would surely be unwelcome for the Red Devils as it can only drive up the player’s price.

Antony may, regardless, prove his worth if he comes to Manchester. Erik ten Hag’s familiarity could help the Red Devils get a deal done for the player and it remains to be seen if the player decides to come here.

His age is ideal for a player of his talent, giving him ample time to learn and develop under one of the best coaches for young talents in ten Hag- granted he joins Man Utd this summer or in the near future.
