Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United star Dean Henderson will join Nottingham Forest on a loan

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United star Dean Henderson will join Nottingham Forest on a loan move this summer transfer window. His temporary transfer has now been confirmed, and the deal is expected to be finalised in the coming days.

Henderson will be at City Ground for the rest of the next season, after which he will rejoin Man United next summer. Earlier, claims were made about the inclusion of a buy option, but that is now not the case after further discussions between both clubs.

The new contract is now expected to be penned by the England international when he returns from his holidays. The 25-year-old is currently on a honeymoon after getting married and would probably undergo medical tests as well before penning the new deal with Forest.

Still hope for Henderson?

Erik ten Hag’s decision to stick with David de Gea is certainly a surprise, to say the least, especially when the shot-stopper divided opinion among the fans when he was a topic of discussion following Luis Enrique’s comments on the veteran.

Enrique suggested that de Gea’s ball-playing ability and dominance in the air are questionable, which is why the goalkeeper is not in his plans. That is a fair assessment as the Spanish international has not been among the best in that regard despite being excellent in terms of shot-stopping.

Those who have watched ten Hag’s Ajax would know that keepers like Andre Onana were tasked with other roles rather than just shot-stopping. So it is intriguing to see the boss trusting de Gea, who is not as complete as Henderson, in between the posts.

Furthermore, ten Hag even wanted Henderson on loan at Ajax back in January, which makes this temporary move even more puzzling. Then again, if the coach believes he can improve de Gea’s skills, then we should back him in his decision.

Henderson did perform excellently during his previous loan spells at Sheffield United, so perhaps he could do the same with the Reds and help them in their attempt to remain in the Premier League. That could help him convince ten Hag of his qualities and even make his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
