Transfer News: Manchester United willing to sell Brandon Williams
According to the Sun, Manchester United are willing to sell talented academy graduate Brandon Williams this summer with a £10m fee enough to part ways with the defender.
Williams joined Manchester United in 2017 and has been in their ranks ever since. Having progressed through the stages in the youth levels, the English defender broke into the first team in 2019. This season, he has impressed out on loan at Norwich.
Despite his impressive performances, the Red Devils seemingly consider him surplus to requirements and are willing to move him on for a fee. The 21-year-old has played 28 times for the Canaries this season, providing one assist.
With Man United willing to part ways with the talented Englishman, it remains to be seen if there is another PL team that is willing to take him on board- or if interest comes from abroad.
Versatility?
It’s still not evident as to why Man United want to move Brandon Williams on since clearly, the English defender possesses talent.
Brandon Williams is a rare breed. A right-footed player who often plays at left-back, the English international has the ability to play as a right-back. Such versatility is hard to get and it feels surprising that ten Hag doesn’t count on him.
Then again, it’s best if United don’t compromise anymore. Get in quality players and bank on them rather can continue with players who show promise but haven’t been able to fulfil it.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is widely expected to be shipped out this summer having failed to impress at Old Trafford. That would leave Diogo Dalot as the only option at right-back and Alex Telles and Luke Shaw as options at left-back.
This means that Brandon Williams can actually get to do a job as a right-back next season if United decide not to sign a replacement for Bissaka. However, if they plan to bring someone else in, then Williams may not get game time.

Then again, not every academy graduate can cut it at Old Trafford. If ten Hag deems Williams surplus to requirements, then it is better to not debate that decision. We have put our faith in the Dutchman to lead us to the promised land.
And a big part of transforming the squad is taking difficult calls to offload players- some of who may have been fan favourites early on in their careers.
