Transfer News: Manchester United are leading the race to sign Christian Eriksen
According to Daily Star, Manchester United are leading the race to sign wanted Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer.
Eriksen joined Brentford in January on a six-month deal as he looked to get his playing career back on track after the unfortunate cardiac arrest he suffered whilst playing for Denmark during the Euros last summer.
It is fair to say that the Danish superstar has made a roaring return to the footballing stage impressing one and all during his time at Brentford. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has played 11 times for the Bees in the Premier League this season scoring one goal and providing four assists.
While Brentford are keen on signing Eriksen on a long-term deal, the player wants to move to a bigger club and Manchester United are said to be leading the race for the signature of the talented attacking midfielder.
Resounding comeback?
If Christian Eriksen indeed signs for Manchester United, he would have completed a resounding comeback to the top stage of football.
Anyone who has followed the Dane’s career over the years will know that the talented playmaker played some of his best football in the Premier League with Tottenham and he is no stranger to the league.
Whilst his move to Inter had its fair share of ups and downs with Eriksen struggling to adapt to the Serie A, he definitely seems to be back to his best for both Denmark and whilst playing for Brentford in the past six months.
At 30, Eriksen still has a good 3-4 years left in him in the top flight. It is still not evident as to what kind of a role Erik ten Hag envisions for the playmaker and he could be consigned to a bit-part role due to the presence of Bruno Fernandes.
