Manchester United alerted as Toni Kroos will not renew his contract at Real Madrid
According to the Spanish media source SER Deportivos on Twitter (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United have been put on red alert as Toni Kroos has decided not to renew his contract at Real Madrid. This news would come as quite a surprise, to say the least, looking at the success he has achieved with his side over the years.
Kross will see his current contract with Real expire at the end of the next season. However, in a shocking twist of fate, he is not interested in extending his stay in the Spanish capital with a new deal. As such, the La Liga side may decide to sell him this summer to prevent losing him for free in the future.
It is believed that the German international will attract a host of attention if he is made available in the transfer market. Man United have been touted as a potential destination, with Erik ten Hag having made the signing of a new central midfielder a priority ahead of the next campaign.
Massive opportunity in the making?
It remains to be seen how this situation will turn out to be in the coming weeks of this transfer window. After all, the Madrid club have not taken a stance just yet, so we have to wait for their decision regarding the 32-year-old’s future.
Despite being in the twilight of his playing career, the former Bayern Munich remains to be one of the best in his position even now. He had played an integral role in helping his side win the Champions League title and the La Liga trophy in the previous season.
However, there have been times when Carlo Ancelotti decided to take Kroos off the pitch when things didn’t pan out for them. That was especially the case during their comeback runs in the CL victory. Perhaps, that may potentially have played a part in the midfielder’s decision, as it could have left him feeling undervalued.
In fact, the recent signing of highly-rated Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco further raises doubts about the old stars who are present in Los Blancos midfield. They have been known for axing their key players without hesitation, which is evident from the departures of their starting centre-back duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane last summer.

As such, the Red Devils may receive a great opportunity to sign Kroos this summer which they must take advantage of at all costs. In fact, the central midfielder could be a perfect addition for us under the current situation.
It has previously been claimed that Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a player aged 30 or more to add more experience to the squad. Kroos fits that bill, plus his prior connection with Cristiano Ronaldo and Varane could perhaps help in our rebuild moving forward.
