Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United can target Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are serious in their pursuit of talented Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan this summer.
Dumfries joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and has had a solid season with the Nerazzurri this summer. Highly rated since his time in the Eredivisie, the Dutch defender has been performing exceptionally well for quite some time now.
This season, the 26-year-old has played 45 times for Simone Inzaghi’s side this season scoring five goals and providing seven assists across all competitions. Such numbers have prompted big clubs in England to take notice of the talented defender.
Manchester United are now claimed to be serious in their pursuit of Dumfries but it’s safe to assume that they will not be alone with more than one club possibly joining the race for the talented Dutchman.
What should Man United do?
Right-back is an area of concern for Manchester United ahead of next season and Denzel Dumfries might be the perfect solution to all their worries.
Aaron Wan -Bissaka has disappointed during his time at Old Trafford. Whilst showing glimpses of true quality in his initial stages, his performances have been on a constant decline to the stage of him being dropped midway last campaign.
Diogo Dalot has quality but is not reliable enough to be trusted as the sole starting right-back at the club and we might need a replacement of substantial quality this summer. Denzel Dumfries seems solid as a defender as well as in possession of the ball.
United’s biggest problem with Wan-Bissaka has been his limitations going forward, and he was benched a lot by Ralf Rangnick in favour of the Portuguese defender. Dumfries could be a player ten Hag trusts in that area and the Dutch connection would also be a plus for both sides.
