Arsenal and Newcastle United lead Manchester United in the race for Napoli star Fabian Ruiz
According to the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Arsenal and Newcastle United are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Napoli star Fabian Ruiz in the summer transfer window. His future is up for grabs at this moment which has seen him linked with a move elsewhere ahead of the next season.
Ruiz will see his current contract with the Serie A club expire at the end of the upcoming campaign. Napoli are ready to sell him this summer to prevent losing him on a free transfer in the future. They have named a price tag of £25.8million for his services, with Premier League teams circling to get a hold of the midfielder.
Man United are one of them, but they have been dealt a blow, as Newcastle and the Gunners are the frontrunners in this pursuit right now. Manchester City are also plotting to target the Spanish international, which makes up for an interesting couple of weeks up ahead in this transfer window.
Can Man Utd make some transfer moves?
The 26-year-old is on the back of yet another impressive season with the Italian side, having become a key player for them since joining them back in 2018. He had shown huge potential even during his days at Real Betis and has now become a fully-fledged superstar at this moment.
The Serie A ace had garnered seven goals and four assists from 38 matches across all competitions in the previous campaign. He played a major role in helping his side mount a challenge for the Scudetto title for a large portion of that season.
Being in the prime years of his playing career, Ruiz would undoubtedly boost our midfield which has declined with the departures we had this summer. That could explain why we are targeting midfield reinforcements in an attempt to back Erik ten Hag in the transfer market.
Ruiz’s current valuation is a massive steal indeed, so it would be wise on the Manchester club’s part to actively chase after the central midfielder this summer. Now that Paul Pogba has left Old Trafford, his exit has left a gaping hole in the midfield that has dented our creative presence in the centre of the pitch.
Ruiz can be a great signing to negate that, and one could even argue that he is a much better attractive prospect than Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. We have been pursuing the latter for quite some time and have not made much progress in terms of signing him.

Barca rate de Jong around £89million, which is quite a massive fee, to say the least. One could raise questions against our transfer plans for that reason, especially with the budget thought to be between £100million and £150million.
