Transfer News: Newcastle United could join race for Manchester United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to the Daily Star (h/t the Express), Newcastle United could join the race for Manchester United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton if the Magpies fail to land on priority target Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims.
Calvert-Lewin joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016 and has since then gone on to become one of the best forwards in the Premier League. His performances for Everton have attracted interest from the big boys in the Premier League.
The English striker has not had the best spell this season, suffering from injuries and not being able to play for an extended period of time. The talented 25-year-old played just 18 times for the Toffees this season scoring just five goals and providing two assists across all competitions.
Manchester United and Arsenal are both said to be interested in signing the talented Everton striker but Newcastle United could be set to join the mix if they fail to land on Hugo Ekitike.
Amazing option?
Anyone who has seen Calvert-Lewin play over the past few seasons knows for a fact that the Englishman knows where the back of the net is and he would be a smart signing for Manchester United.
Whilst this has been a poor season by the target man’s usual standards, it does not mean that he has lost his ability and injuries tend to go away after all. Hence, the Evertonian might be the perfect signing for Man Utd in the long run.
Right now, the Red Devils still have Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks as their first-choice target man. As good as the Portuguese superstar, he is 37 years old and it makes sense for Man Utd to snap up a young backup striker.
Arsenal and Newcastle United also being in the mix for the talented striker means that Man Utd will have to act fast to snap him up and not let it be too late. Everton on their hand will hold out for big money for a player considering three clubs are interested in him.
