Manchester United get transfer boost as Aston Villa are willing to sell John McGinn
According to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of John McGinn as Aston Villa are willing to sell him this summer. This news would come as a great piece of update for Sir Alex Ferguson, who wanted his former side to sign the midfielder.
McGinn has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past few months, and a transfer could finally be on the cards following this latest information. Man United are looking into the market for reinforcements to improve their declined midfield and back Erik ten Hag ahead of the next season.
McGinn has been identified as a potential option for that reason, with the Red Devils still being interested in signing him this summer. That being said, they will face competition from their direct rivals Tottenham Hotspur in this transfer race as well.
Would Man Utd finally pay heed to SAF?
The Scottish midfielder has earned quite a name for himself with his no-nonsense mentality during matches. In fact, his devotion to giving his complete focus on the playing field certainly makes him an attractive prospect for us because of his leadership mindset, which we have lacked in the team for a while.
The 27-year-old would be a great addition to our squad in such a case, especially when our midfield requires bolstering this summer. The exits of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have left a gap in the squad that must be filled to maintain depth in our team.
The Lions ace’s signing would greatly help in adding quality, and having someone in the squad like him who can demand others to do their best would be in our best interests. Now that Steven Gerrard’s side is ready to accept proposals for the central midfielder, we are given more incentives to facilitate a transfer move.
The Manchester side must take advantage of the current situation for that very reason, but we would not be handed a free run at the midfielder because of Tottenham. The latter has made quite some rumblings in the transfer market as they look to back Antonio Conte.

Spurs are in a more stable state than us, and the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, and Fraser Forster would certainly help with their case. Now it looks like Spurs want to add McGinn to their ranks as well, which could prove to be problematic as they can offer Champions League football, unlike us.
Whether that will give the North Londoners an edge over us or not remains to be seen in due time.
