Manchester United dealt a transfer blow as Tammy Abraham is likely to stay at AS Roma

According to the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport via Football Italia (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United have received a blow in their pursuit to sign Tammy Abraham as he is likely to stay at AS Roma beyond this summer. He has enjoyed a great time in Italy, having won the UEFA Europa Conference League with his side after joining them only last season.

Man United have expressed their interest in securing Abraham’s signature in the summer transfer window. However, they are set to face a difficult time when it comes to prising him away as he is happy with life at Roma so far. Furthermore, Jose Mourinho has no plans to part ways with his star man, especially after their recent success.

That’s not all, as Abraham’s agent Neil Fewings will earn €400,000 in cash if his client remains with the Giallorossi past each transfer window. Moreover, they also have the opportunity to double their investment after the upcoming campaign as a £69million buyback option will be available for Chelsea to activate at that point.

Striker problem for Man Utd?

Following Edinson Cavani’s exit, there is a need to bring in a quality centre-forward to maintain squad depth and quality moving forward. While Cristiano Ronaldo can make an impact, he cannot play every single game, and his minutes have to be managed well to get the best out of the superstar, prolonging his career in the process.

Ronaldo would eventually have to be replaced in the future, giving us all the more reason to search for a quality striker who is relatively young as well. Abraham certainly fits the ball if his success in Serie A is anything to be considered.

However, we may be facing a dead-end in our attempt to sign Abraham, going by this latest update. Perhaps we could try to convince the Italian side to sell the Englishman by agreeing to pay an amount somewhere near the Blues’ buy-option this summer itself.

Then again, the Red Devils board must first discuss the matter with Erik ten Hag and see whether Abraham fits into the manager’s plans before going down this route. It would be best if a decision could be reached as soon as possible with Arsenal also being in this transfer race.

Waiting till the next summer is certainly risky looking at the struggles Thomas Tuchel’s side are going through in the forward line. Hence, it would be best if we actively target Abraham this summer as the 24-year-old could prove to be a great investment looking at his progress under the Chosen One.

With the Gunners also requiring a centre-forward addition following Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departures, we are handed even more incentives to make an early move for Abraham ahead of the next campaign.
