Transfer News: Jurrien Timber to snub Manchester United for Ajax stay
According to Dutch reporter Mike Verweij (h/t Metro), Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber is set to snub Manchester United and Erik ten Hag in favour of staying at the Eredivisie giants at least for now.
Timber joined Ajax’s youth ranks in 2014 and has since then progressed through all the stages before breaking into the first team in 2020. Since then, the Dutch defender has gone on to become one of the sought-after young defenders in Europe.
This season has been no different, with Timber playing a key role in Erik ten Hag’s team at Ajax. The 21-year-old played 43 games this campaign scoring three goals and providing two assists across all competitions.
Ten Hag wanted to take his defensive starlet along with him to Old Trafford but it seems like the player is leaning towards a stay at Ajax especially considering the World cup that is coming up later this year.

If Man United are set to shop for centre-backs in the market this summer, it cannot get much better than Jurrien Timber.
Erik ten Hag will undoubtedly know how to get the best out of the dutchman and all these factors mean he will be the ideal signing for us. Pairing him with someone of Raphael Varane’s experience would have been perfect for us.
Timber’s versatility is a huge plus. The 21-year-old is exceptional at centre-back but can also do a great job at right-back. This would mean we could be getting a player who could cover two positions if we sign him.
Other than Varane, our other centre-back options do not inspire much confidence. Victor Lindelof is extremely frustrating whilst Harry Maguire has been somewhat of a laughing stock. It’s no secret that we need a new defender this summer.

Erik ten Hag could use his familiarity with the player to push for him and try and convince him to join us this summer. If we indeed manage to sign Timber, it would be a great start to ten Hag’ era at Manchester United.
