Arsenal prepare transfer bid for Victor Osimhen amidst Manchester United interest
According to the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport [Print Edition] (h/t The Sun), Arsenal are currently preparing a bid for Victor Osimhen amidst interest from Manchester United for a potential transfer. He is one of the most sought-after attackers in world football right now and is now being linked with a move to the Premier League.
Osimhen has already set his eyes on a move to England this summer to take his career to newer heights. Man United and the Gunners are battling it out for his services, but it is the latter who seem to be taking their interest to the next level. Napoli have set an £86million price tag, but Arsenal are ready to meet that amount and are even setting up a proposal as of now.
Mikel Arteta’s side are not deterred by the Serie A club’s asking price as they know the Red Devils cannot afford to pay that amount for the Nigerian international. If that is the case, then Erik ten Hag’s side would be essentially ruled out of contention for another centre-forward, having suffered a setback in their pursuit of Darwin Nunez.
Another damning blow for Man Utd?
It is quite concerning to see our direct rivals pushing ahead with their transfer plans while we are getting left behind at this moment. That seems to be the case with Osimhen’s situation as well, with the North London club looking to pay his valuation and secure a deal this summer.
Losing out on Nunez was a blow in and of itself, but seeing Osimhen move to Emirates would add to our already worrisome situation. Even though the transfer window had just begun, we have not made any significant strides when it comes to bringing in reinforcements to back Erik ten Hag this summer.
In fact, ten Hag wants to sign a striker to support Cristiano Ronaldo in the frontline, but we are not making any progress if this update is to be believed. Since Edinson Cavani has already been released from our squad, we are left with no backup for Ronaldo at this moment.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can deputise as a striker, but they have not performed at their best for quite some time. Mason Greenwood has been suspended indefinitely either, which has left us in a precarious spot ahead of the next season.
Furthermore, Ronaldo would need to be replaced sooner rather than later, which calls for the need to sign a world-class centre-forward. Osimhen would have been perfect for us in such a case, but signing him may be out of contention going by this update.
