Chelsea could make transfer bid for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries amidst Manchester United interest
According to the Italian source La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Metro), Chelsea could decide to make a bid for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries amidst interest from Manchester United for a summer transfer move. Both clubs could use his services in their ranks which could pave the way for some interesting weeks ahead.
Erik ten Hag is keen to sign Dumfries, having been impressed by the defender during his time at Inter. Thomas Tuchel is also in the same boat as he is eager to secure the right-back’s signature because of his versatility in playing in different formations. As such, both English sides are set to battle it out with each other this summer.
The Blues could table a £21million offer for Dumfries as they look to steal a march on Man United. The former would also be helped by the talks with the Nerazzurri regarding Romelu Lukaku’s future. That could suggest the Italian side potentially being open to selling the full-back this summer.
Man Utd must respond!
The Red Devils management must do their best to bring in a right-back addition, looking at the situation surrounding Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It looks like he will leave Old Trafford ahead of the upcoming campaign, with the club being ready to accept proposals for his services.
Wan-Bissaka’s potential exit would leave a vacant spot in the right-back position, which must be filled at all costs. After all, going through an entire season with just Diogo Dalot is self-sabotage as injuries or suspensions to Dalot could see us left with no options available.
Furthermore, the next campaign is bound to be a long one, and rotations are necessary to keep the squad fresh for our best interests. Dumfries, who has performed splendidly for club and country over the last year or so, would greatly help in that regard, and he would even add healthy competition to that role.
The Dutch international usually plays as a wing-back for the Nerazzurri, but he has shown his capability of deputising as a full-back for the Netherlands as well. Furthermore, his attacking playstyle would greatly suit ten Hag’s tactics if the latter’s tactics at Ajax are anything to go by.

Wan-Bissaka had fallen short due to his limitations in the forward areas, but that would not be the case with Dumfries, as he excels in the final third. However, we must remain wary of Tuchel’s side now that they may propose an offer for the latter this summer.
That being said, the West Londoners’ proposal is lower than the Serie A giants’ valuation of £34million for Dumfries. As such, we have to wait and see how Simone Inzaghi’s side would respond to this offer for the 26-year-old and whether the discussions involving Lukaku would help with the potential bid this summer.
