Manchester United are in talks with Newcastle to find a solution for the transfer of Dean Henderson
According to 90min, Newcastle United and Manchester United are trying to find the middle ground in the transfer of Dean Henderson who has already agreed personal terms with the Magpies.
This season, Henderson has been United’s backup goalkeeper, with David de Gea firmly entrenched as the club’s first choice. The Spaniard appears to be showing no signs of slowing down, and his performances in the 2021/22 season have him on track to keep his starting spot.
This might lead Henderson to leave Manchester United in pursuit of consistent playing time elsewhere. He is believed to have agreed personal terms with Eddie Howe’s team and is currently waiting for the two teams to reach an agreement.
Newcastle United has given the Englishman a transfer window escape route, but the Magpies are interested in a loan deal for their goalie. However Manchester United are more interested in permanently selling the goalkeeper in the coming summer transfer window.
Newcastle United is expected to negotiate a transfer fee under £20m for the Englishman. However, considering United hold the 25-year-old to high standards they would be eyeing to secure more. It is believed that both the teams are continuing talks to find the best solution.
Should Manchester United sell Henderson?
Henderson’s talent and ability to succeed in the Premier League have never been in doubt. The 25-year-old spent time on loan at Sheffield United, where he became an important part of the club as they made a strong comeback to the Premier League.
De Gea appears to be blocking the England international’s path to being the first-choice goalkeeper at his childhood club, and that does not appear to be changing anytime soon. Henderson has only played in the League Cup and the FA Cup, and United have not progressed far in either tournament.

However the 25-year-old might be too good to be a backup keeper. Considering he is young and energetic, he might be more interested in career growth rather than the pride of playing for the United badge.
That’s why it seems highly unlikely that United would be able to stop him from leaving. But the Red Devils should try to secure the best deal from his selling. Money might not be a big problem for the Newly rich Magpies, hence United should continue to fight the negotiation battle.
