Transfer News: Manchester United preparing a bumper offer for Frenkie de Jong
According to Daily Star, Manchester United are seeking to pledge a significant amount of money in an attempt to lure away Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona.
de Jong has been one of Barcelona’s best midfielders in recent campaigns. Even after the arrival of Xavi at the helm, the 25-year-old has managed to hold onto his position. Performance-wise, he has spent a decent spell, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
Before moving to Barcelona, de Jong had an emphatic spell at Ajax, helping them win the Eredivisie and reach the semi-final of the Champions League. The 25-year-old midfielder’s performance peaked at that time and the then-Ajax manager Erik ten Hag might have had an influence on him.
The Dutch manager has been announced as the new Manchester United boss. Now, Ten Hag wants to reunite with his former player at Old Trafford and has urged United to sign him in the summer window. However, as the Dutchman has made his intention clear to only join a club competing among Europe’s elite next term, United have been left in hot waters.
However, it is believed that the Red Devils aren’t giving up and their next move is to offer a huge wage deal to the Dutch star in order to lure him away from Barcelona.
