Manchester United set to make fresh transfer attempt to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves
According to The Sun, Manchester United are set to make a fresh attempt to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves in the summer transfer window. They are planning to ramp up the efforts in the coming weeks to facilitate a move for him at the end of this season.
Man United are closing in on making a final stand to secure Neves’ services after the current campaign. Erik ten Hag has declared him his number one target to bolster the midfield this summer. The midfielder has been on their radar for quite a long time, but a move could finally take place in the coming months.
That being said, a potential transfer would be a bit costly as Wolverhampton Wanderers want a fee close to £50million for the Portuguese international. The Red Devils also have other targets on their shortlist and would look to pursue them if they fail in their bid to sign Neves.
Can Man Utd finally get Neves?
The 25-year-old could prove to be one of the most important targets for the Manchester club this summer. After all, we are set to lose Nemanja Matic after this term, which would leave us with no natural defensive midfielders for the next season. Hence, it is understandable why Ten Hag has made Neves a priority case.
We could have a genuine shot at completing a move for Neves, considering how Bruno Lage’s side are searching for replacements at this point. Sporting’s Joao Palhinha and Martim Neto of Benfica are being targeted right now to cope with the potential exit of the Premier League ace.
However, a move for Neves seems to be very expensive, looking at the current price tag set by the Wanderers. That being said, we may be forced to meet that valuation since he is contracted until 2024, giving his side complete control over his future prospects.
Furthermore, Barcelona are also in the mix and would pose a considerable threat to our chances since they can offer Champions League football to Neves. That is quite problematic, but Barca’s finances are in a dire state, which means that we could perhaps use that to our advantage to gain an edge over them.

But we also need to convince the Wolves ace himself to finalise a move in the summer transfer window. Fortunately, it seems that he has his mindset on leaving Molineaux, having been stalling renewal talks for quite some time.
However, whether Neves would join us or move to Camp Nou would need to be seen in due time. The board must do their best to beat the Catalans and reach an agreement as it is essential to back ten Hag in the best way possible to kickstart our new project.
