Pep Guardiola sends a cheeky party invite to Manchester United fans ahead of the Premier League title decider
According to the Mirror, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sent a cheeky party invite to Manchester United fans ahead of the Premier League title decider later tonight.
The blue side of Manchester are currently in contention to win the English top-flight league but could be outdone by Liverpool if results go against them. Either way, it is a lose-lose for the Red Devils faithful.
Pep’s side are just one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool which means a win against Aston Villa is essential for them to win the title. However, things might be easier for Man City as compared to the Reds as the latter do not control their own destiny. The scenario is such that even if Liverpool wins, Man City will win the PL considering that they are a point ahead of them.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s dismal performance has made the other side of the ‘city’ celebrate in joy. The happiness isn’t restricted to fans but even the mAN City gaffer jokingly said that the Red Devils would hope for their rivals to win the title.
Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Mirror, Pep went on to say that Man United fans could join their party but would have to wear the blue shirt. He would have been better off asking for the moon.
“So, I was wrong when I say everyone wants Liverpool to win the title in this country! I was wrong. Yeah, welcome (United fans). Welcome. If they want to join us in the street. But they have to wear the blue shirt, yeah. They have to wear it!”
A Peculiar Scenario for United
If Liverpool ends up winning the PL and the Champions League, they would eclipse Man United’s 1999 Treble. The weak performance produced by the Red Devils this season and City almost winning the league, making it two in a row has made the Sky Blues happier.
A peculiar situation wherein deep down Man United fans would be hoping for local rivals to win the league just so Liverpool does not overshadow our legacy of winning the Treble. Clearly, Guardiola fails to understand that us preferring City on the night has less to do with him and more to do with our rivalry with the Reds.
