Ralf Rangnick admits he could have done better as the interim manager of Manchester United
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by the Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick admits he could have done a better job during his six-month reign at Old Trafford.
Upon his arrival, the Red Devils lost only once in his first appearance as manager in 13 Premier League games. But the team lost momentum halfway into March coupled with injury concerns. Poor performances on the pitch saw the club drop points and eventually lose out on a Champions League spot.
Rangnick was touted to reverse the situation of the team after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Fans expected to witness the infamous ‘gegenpressing’ that would be inculcated in the team but unfortunately, it was not the case.
After losing out on the top four spot, the club is still yet to determine if they are to play in the Europa League or the Conference League next season. Rangnick would not shy away from obtaining a win on Sunday, making it his final duty as the interim manager.
Speaking on Friday ahead of the final game against Crystal Palace, Rangnick expressed there were no regrets from his end and further mentioned that he and the team could have done more over the season.
“I made this experience and it is still an experience I would not want to miss, although we were only a positive pathway in the first three or four months, we could not keep that. We could all have done better, including myself, we all have to be self-critical and now it is about taking and drawing the right conclusions.”
New Season, New Project
With incoming manager, Erik ten Hag set to take over the role next season, a squad overhaul is expected to happen.
Fans would certainly hope the former Ajax manager to bring about a change and compete at the highest level, unlike this season. The incoming manager has already taken responsibility but is keen to figure out whether United will make it to the Europa League next season.

Ralf Rangnick will be in charge of the final game at Selhurst Park on Sunday and we would hope to amass three points and qualify for the Europa League. Failing to do so, we would play in the Conference League, a situation very much in our hands to avoid.
Fans would perhaps not remember Rangnick fondly, considering the situation pretty much remained the same as it was under Solskjaer. But the information he can impart regarding the dressing room behaviour of our players to ten Hag would certainly be valuable and it’s a good touch from the Red Devils to maintain continuity by keeping the German on board beyond this summer.
