List of released Manchester United players expected to hit double figures at the end of the season due to multiple outgoings
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are expected to hit double figures when they release their list of released players at the end of the season. There are several stars who are set to depart the club ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 2021/22 season has been disappointing, with the club failing to either win any silverware or qualify for the Champions League next term. In comparison, they finished the previous campaign by ending up as runners-up to eventual Premier League winners Manchester City.
Much was expected when the Red Devils added Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho to the squad last summer, but that experiment has not worked out well. Instead, the team is still not sure of where they will finish in the points table until the final game week of the season.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the league table but could drop down to seventh place if West Ham United managed to pip them to the spot on the final game week of the campaign. United’s match against Crystal Palace could potentially decide whether they play Europa League or Conference League football next season.
Galaxy of stars set to depart
Regardless of the outcome this season, the Manchester side is expected to see the backs of several first-team stars in the summer. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Lee Grant, and Edinson Cavani are on the way out of the club once their contracts run out.
There are a couple of departures expected at the academy level as well, with goalkeeper Ondrej Mastny, full-back Reece Devine, midfielders Charlie Wellens and Connor Stanley, and forwards D’Mani Mellor and Mateo Mejia becoming free agents at the end of the season.
The summer will bring about a host of changes at Old Trafford, with new faces in the squad and coaching staff coming in. The club have already announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the side’s new permanent manager, who will bring in his coaching staff to assist him at United.
The Dutchman is expected to lead a squad overhaul, taking on the responsibility of finding replacements for the whole lot of players that are leaving the club for free at the end of the season. Midfield is an area that needs work, given the impending exits of Pogba, Matic, Lingard, and Mata.

The attacking line needs reinforcements as well, as Cavani’s departure puts more pressure on Ronaldo to deliver the goals. Although Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial remain at the club, the former is out of form and the latter’s future remains unsure.
ten Hag has quite a task on his hands if he is to put together a team that is capable of fighting for titles next season. The good news is that the Dutchman is known for building young and dynamic squads from his time at Ajax, but only time will tell if he proves to be as successful in Manchester.
