Manchester United rejected by RB Salzburg ace Karim Adeyemi during attempt to hijack his transfer to Borussia Dortmund

According to German sports reporter Patrick Berger on Twitter (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United was rejected by RB Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi during their attempt to hijack the player’s proposed transfer to Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer.

Adeyemi has been enjoying a standout season at Salzburg, turning into a goal machine for the side in the domestic league as well as in Europe. The player’s goals have helped them win the Austrian Bundesliga yet again, this term. He currently has 21 goals in all competitions this season from 41 appearances.

The 20-year-old’s performances on the pitch had seen him attract the attention of a lot of clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, but it now looks like Dortmund have managed to secure his services. They certainly have a knack for picking up starlets from Salzburg, previously signing Erling Haaland.

This will come as a blow to United, who are in the market as they look for a goalscorer that can prove to be a younger replacement for their current strikers. With both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani on the wrong side of 35, the club are preparing for a future without them.

Adeyemi snubs United salary offer

Adeyemi may have proven to be the ideal candidate that the Red Devils needed ahead of the new season, but they, unfortunately, lost out on the player to Dortmund. However, that did not stop them from attempting to hijack the Bundesliga side’s transfer approach for the forward.

Berger revealed that the English giants had made an approach to sign the German player, but Adeyemi snubbed them for a move to Signal Iduna Park, despite being offered wages of £150k-per-week. The striker will now seal a transfer to the Black and Yellows in a 5-year-deal in the coming days.

Aside from the need to find a younger replacement for Ronaldo and Cavani, United also need reinforcements in attack due to the situation surrounding their other forwards. Marcus Rashford has been underperforming the entire season, and even when both of the club’s veteran strikers have been ruled out, he has been snubbed by the head coach due to his poor form.

Mason Greenwood remains suspended from the side while Anthony Martial’s future in our starting XI is uncertain after he fell down the pecking order in attack. The Frenchman is currently on loan at Sevilla and expected back in the summer, but there is no absolute guarantee that will continue his career with the Premier League giants.

Going forward, much of who the club will be aiming for as attacking transfer targets will rest on who incoming new manager Erik ten Hag sees fitting into his plans at United. The Dutchman is known for building young and dynamic sides, and Adeyemi may perhaps have fit in well under the Ajax coach.

For now, the Manchester side will need to focus on other young strikers who may be available in the market after Adeyemi’s snub. It may also prove to the English club that players are not convinced by just attractive wages, and need much more reassurances from them.
