Manchester United to battle Premier League rivals Arsenal for AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni

According to football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are one of the Premier League clubs interested in securing the services of AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Tchoumeni has grown to become one of the brightest talents in French football, earning plaudits for his performances in the middle of the park for both Monaco and the France national team. Only 22, the player has proven that age is not a limitation to his abilities.

His fine displays on the pitch have seen him attract attention from a lot of clubs ahead of the impending opening of the transfer window, with United being one of the sides interested in snapping up the Frenchman to bolster their midfield.

The midfield has been a weak link for the Manchester side for years, and they are yet to find a player that is capable of filling in the gaps. A lynchpin in the middle of the park is a necessity for the team, and perhaps Tchouameni could be the one to revitalise the squad.

Premier League interest for Tchouameni

It will not be easy to sign the France international this summer, as Di Marzio has claimed that Arsenal are also keen to sign the Monaco man for themselves. The Gunners currently have Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny running the midfield, while Thomas Partey remains on the sidelines through injury.

United will need to battle the north London side for Tchouameni’s signature at the end of the season, and both clubs could be involved in a transfer tug-of-war for the player who will set them back by at least £60m. For a player of his quality and age, that may prove to be a bargain in the long term.

At Old Trafford, Fred and Scott McTominay are arguably the manager’s first-choice pairing in midfield. However, neither player has proven that they can take their game to the next level or put in consistent performances throughout the season.

Furthermore, more senior stars like Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic’s exits from the club in the summer make it necessary for the Red Devils to look for upgrades. While the former seems to be running down his contract with the team when it expires at the end of the season, the latter has announced his impending departure from the side.

Evidently, the team needs a player who can prove to be a long-term investment for the club and shoulder the responsibility of running the midfield. Tchouameni has proven exactly that at Monaco, and could very well be the star United have been searching for.

The Frenchman could very well be Pogba’s long-term successor for Les Blues in the coming years, and in the summer, he could also act as Pogba’s successor for the Red Devils. Only time will tell if the 22-year-old picks the Manchester side over Arsenal in the coming months.
