Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans decides on next transfer destination amid interest from Manchester United

According to football journalist Sacha Tavolieri on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has decided that his preferred destination would be Spain if he were to exit the club, amid interest from Manchester United.

The player has been one of the Foxes’ most consistent performers in midfield, putting in dazzling displays for the club whenever he takes to the field. He has gone from strength to strength since moving to Leicester from AS Monaco in 2019.

A regular for the Belgian national team now, he has proven to be one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League within years of moving to England. The midfielder has caught the attention of clubs like United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur in recent times due to his performances.

He may now be set for a summer move, as he looks to take his game to the next level and secure a transfer to a bigger club at the end of the season. With the World Cup rolling around later this year, he could be looking for a larger platform to prove himself.

Real Madrid gearing up for summer move

As per Tavolieri, the 24-year-old has told people close to him that he is now looking to move away from his current club and take on a new challenge, preferably in Spain. This will come as a blow to the English clubs interested in him, especially United, as they looked for midfield reinforcements.

An ideal destination for him would be Real Madrid according to the football journalist, who are interested in the player. It is not the first time that Los Blancos have been linked to Tielemans as they also tried to secure his services in January, but were put off by his £50m price tag.

A midfield shake-up is necessary at Old Trafford, with the impending departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the summer. While the former has still not given an update on his future as he runs down his contract which expires at the end of the season, the latter has already announced his exit from the club.

Both Scott McTominay and Fred remain in the engine room to keep things ticking, but neither of these players has proven to be capable enough to shine when coming up against stronger opposition. Although Fred has seen an improvement in his performances of late, he still has a long way to go in terms of consistency.

Donny van de Beek remains the other option that the Red Devils can utilise, but the Dutchman is currently on loan at Everton until the summer. Although he is expected to return at the end of the season, his future at United seems uncertain given his previous lack of game time.

Tielemans could have solved some of these issues regarding depth and creativity that have plagued the Manchester side of late, but with the player aiming for a move to Spain, that seems like a dashed dream. United could yet attempt to convince the Belgian to stay in the Premier League, especially with a new manager coming their way ahead of the new season as they look to usher in a new era of trophies.
