PSG enter race for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong amidst Manchester United interest

According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), PSG have entered the race to facilitate a move for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong amidst interest from Manchester United. His future at Camp Nou has been surrounded by uncertainty despite having an upturn in performance recently.

De Jong remains one of the best holding midfielders in world football even now, which is evident from his performances for the Dutch national team. However, he has been utilised in different positions at Barca, which has prevented him from performing at his best regularly. Despite that, he has enjoyed quite a turnaround in his form under Xavi Hernandez so far.

Man United are intent on getting their hands on the Dutchman, but it appears that they will need to deal with competition from here on out. Paris Saint-Germain have registered their interest as they look to scupper the English side’s plans to finalise a potential transfer.

Man Utd must sign de Jong if possible!

Since Erik ten Hag is in line to take over the managerial role at Old Trafford from the next season, the prospect of signing the 24-year-old is something that we must seriously consider. After all, de Jong did perform at his best self consistently during his time with Ten Hag at Ajax.

If that is the case, then we can expect the incoming manager to replicate the same at Carrington if possible. For that to happen, though, we must sign the Blaugrana superstar, which could be possible since he is considering the prospect of leaving the Catalans moving forward.

That certainly does

bode well for us since we are desperate for midfield additions this summer. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are set to leave us for free after this season, while Fred and Scott McTominay have their limitations when it comes to the technical attributes required in modern football.

Bruno Fernandes has not been able to perform at his usual self, whereas we also need to prepare for life past Juan Mata. Donny van de Beek could finally see his career reinvigorate under Ten Hag, but it still does not make up for the additions we need in the centre of the pitch.

As such, de Jong would be a fantastic signing, but with the Ligue 1 side rivalling us for his services, we need to be wary of them since they are in a better place than us at this moment. However, we do have the Erik ten Hag factor, but it remains to be seen if that would play a decisive part in this transfer race.
