Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba receives first official contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain

According to Foot Mercato (h/t Express), Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has received an ‘official offer’ from Paris Saint-Germain, as he prepares to depart Old Trafford in the summer as a free agent at the end of his contract.

The Frenchman sees his current deal with United expire at the end of the season, and has shown no indication that he wants to continue his career in Manchester. Into the final six months of his contract, he is free to speak to foreign clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement with them.

Having left the Red Devils for free in 2012 to join Juventus, he was re-signed from the Serie A club in 2016 after impressing in Italy. While in Turin, he managed to win four consecutive Scudetto titles as well as multiple cup competitions.

Now, it seems like a case of deja vu as the academy graduate looks set to leave the Manchester side once again for free. He has garnered interest from top clubs in Europe, with PSG, Juventus, and Real Madrid all vying for his signature ahead of the new season.

Latest free signing for PSG?

Amongst these clubs, it seems that the Paris outfit has made the first move for the 29-year-old in the summer, having tabled an official offer for the midfielder to consider, as they look to add more quality to their side without having to spend a penny.

The Ligue 1 giants seem to have a reputation for signing big names for free. Last summer, they managed to sign stars like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Lionel Messi on Bosman transfers in an attempt to win their first Champions League trophy and rule over Europe.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are regulars when it comes to being the champions of France, winning the Ligue 1 title this season as well, well before the end of the campaign. However, the UCL crown remains elusive for them.

They managed to reach the final of the European competition in 2020 but lost out to Bayern Munich in a closely contested game. Since then, their hunger for glory has only increased, signing some of the biggest names in world football to help them achieve that – with hardly any coming bigger than Messi.

Now, it looks like they have targeted Pogba as the man to help them finally get to achieving their continental dream. At 29, he is in the prime years of his playing career and could look to put behind a disappointing second spell at United in terms of success, managing to only win a Europa League and League Cup in the last six years in Manchester.

At PSG, he has the opportunity to add to his trophy haul and play for a club that practically guarantees trophies in France. It remains to be seen whether the France international will accept their offer, or wait for other opportunities.
