Bitter rivals make ‘contact’ with 22-year-old Manchester United target’s entourage

Transfer News: Liverpool contact agents of Manchester United target and AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni

According to transfer news on Foot Mercato (h/t The Express), Liverpool have entered the transfer race for Manchester United target and AS Monaco midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni, for a summer move.

The French midfielder has gone from strength to strength in the past year and has become one of the best young players in Ligue 1. And hence, it comes as no big surprise that he has been linked with a move to United and Chelsea in recent times.

But as it turns out, the Reds have made initial contact with the 22-year-old player’s entourage over a move in the near future. This spells trouble for United, considering they have been interested in bringing the young talent to Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s side is battling Manchester City for the Premier League title and is still in the running to win three knockout competitions. Letting them get their hands on a player of Tchouameni’s talent could increase the gap between the two bitter English rivals.

What next for Man Utd and Tchouameni?

Klopp’s midfield three do a lot off the ball to aid their bombarding full-backs when the team gets caught on counterattacks. Tchouameni, being an able ball-winner and reader of the game, would perhaps battle Fabinho in the number 6 role for the Anfield outfit- if he goes there.

A club already blessed with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Jordan Henderson in midfield, potentially signing Tchouameni would only increase the depth in their already quality midfield- which is always a problem for a direct rival such as United, who would want to go toe-to-toe with for titles.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, arguably need him more than Liverpool or even Chelsea for that matter. Scott McTominay and Fred’s injuries in recent weeks has shown the lack of depth in the centre of the park for us.

Paul Pogba is on his way out this summer considering he is yet to renew his contract, while Nemanja Matic’s ageing legs can no longer be depended on to play week in, week out at the very top level. And that is why, bringing in a young, talented midfielder who is strong in defence- such as Tchouameni- makes sense for us.

In all honesty, one would struggle to think of reasons why the ex-Bordeaux talent, who started in France’s Nations League final win over Spain back in October, would choose United over Liverpool if given the option, especially with regards to our league position.

The Red Devils are unlikely to make the top four this season while Liverpool are guaranteed UCL football next term. Moreover, Klopp has, more or less, made his team a winning machine that is in a place to regularly compete for the biggest trophies. And that is exactly why our board must go the extra mile and work hard to beat our rivals when it comes to signing superstars of tomorrow, such as the Frenchman.
