Real Madrid are possibly looking at Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani as a backup option in the next transfer window
According to Fichajes (h/t Sports Witness), Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United star Edison Cavani should they not be able to land priority target Erling Haaland. It is believed that Carlo Ancelotti would have already given such a move the green light.
It is highly likely that the 35-year-old will exit Old Trafford at the end of the season. The Uruguayan international certainly won’t be short of suitors considering his exceptional resume throughout Europe. Los Blancos have now entered the race to snap him up albeit on a few conditions.
Should such a deal take place, Cavani would have to accept a heavy role on the bench and play second fiddle to Karim Benzema who is displaying lighting form at the moment. In any scenario, it would be difficult to replace the French striker who has been bagging goals for fun in this campaign.
Cavani to Real Madrid?
The dynamics of such a deal would depend on a lot of factors. The former PSG hitman has been with us only for a short time but has proven himself as a dependable option. He has made 56 appearances, bagging 19 goals and seven assists across all competitions for the Mancunian club to date.
That being said, the stats do not do justice to the kind of impact he has had at Old Trafford. His professionalism and ethics on the pitch are something that youngsters around the world should try and model.
The Uruguayan doesn’t exactly fit the criteria for the kind of players that Real Madrid recruits at the moment. Cavani is also being linked to different clubs at the moment. It remains to be seen whether they will make an exception should they be unable to land Haaland this summer.
The 22-year-old striker is certainly not short of suitors and bagging him won’t be an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. It is now almost certain that the Uruguayan will depart Manchester United at the end of the season.
