Transfer News: Arsenal leading the race for Manchester United target Victor Osimhen
According to the Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t The Sun), Arsenal are leading the race to secure the signature of Manchester United target Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window. He has been in fine form this season despite being on the sidelines for quite some time with an injury.
Osimhen has been linked with a move elsewhere at the end of this term. The Gunners and Man United are tracking his situation right now as both teams look to facilitate a move for the attacker. However, the former is the favourite to get their hands on the forward this summer. What’s more, they have also scouted him heavily during this campaign leading to this situation.
The North Londoners technical director Edu is eager to land the Nigerian, and the club have “set their sights” on the centre-forward as such. However, with him having a contract until 2025, teams would need to pay a sum of around £83million in transfer fees matching the Serie A side’s valuation to have a chance at signing him.
Damning blow!
This update would be concerning to those at Old Trafford, considering how they could use a striker in their ranks. Edinson Cavani is out of contract this summer, and it does not make sense for us to renew his deal. After all, he has struggled with injuries and has missed a large part of the season as a result.
While Cristiano Ronaldo has done well overall for us, there has been a decline in his performances, indicating that we cannot depend on him for much longer. Others like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can play as centre-forwards, but they have been poor as well this campaign.
As such, Osimhen would have been a great option, considering how he developed into a more well-rounded attacker over the last year. Having a focal point like him upfront will give our attack an added impetus as we look set to embark upon another rebuild.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side are ahead of us in this transfer race at this moment in time. The Man United board must turn things around if there are actively planning to bring the 23-year-old to Carrington this summer.
However, with Erik ten Hag set to take over the managerial role after this campaign, we also need to make sure that Osimhen suits the Ajax man’s plans. If t en Hag gives his approval, we must ramp up our pursuit and ensure that we trump Arsenal to the Nigerian’s signature.
