Manchester United fans react as a Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick to helps them beat Norwich City 3-2

Manchester United had to depend upon Cristiano Ronaldo once again to get them over the line as he scored a hattrick to give his side a 3-2 win against Norwich City. The three points have instilled hope into the supporters that they can still qualify for next season’s Champions League following the results from their direct rivals.

Despite the victory, this game should send a warning to Man United that maybe a better side could have punished them on a different day. The lack of Fred and Scott McTominay was felt as Norwich often cut through them with ease as the defence did not receive any solid protection from the midfield.

The Red Devils started the game well, even if the game was slow in tempo for the first half-hour or so. They were gifted a goal just past the five-minute mark as Ben Gibson was caught in possession, and Ronaldo just had to put the ball into the empty net. Following 30 minutes, the hosts started raising the tempo and immediately scored as the talisman scored a header from Alex Telles’s corner.

Hard fought victory!

The Portuguese international was poorly marked, and he paid the visitors for their mistake. Tim Krul could have done better for that goal, but that seemed to have given the home side firm control in the match. However, that was not the case, as the Canaries ramped up the pressure to pull one back through Kieran Dowell just before half-time.

Dean Smith’s side continued the pressure after the break as they levelled the scoring through Teemu Pukki just seven minutes into the second half. He had another golden chance in the first half, which he failed to convert, but he did not make the same mistake this time around.

Norwich were the better side until Ralf Rangnick subbed on Nemanja Matic for Jesse Lingard, which gave them some solidity in midfield. However, it was Juan Mata’s substitution that really turned the tide around as the Manchester club looked more in control after his introduction.

Ronaldo scored a brilliant freekick, although Krul made a mistake as he could have saved the shot. The hosts threatened to add more goals, but the match was done after the superstar completed the hattrick. Despite the resilience, the team must look at themselves as it took two mistakes to ensure a victory against a relegation-threatened side.

However, we would gladly accept the win and look for improvements in the future. With Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal losing their respective fixtures, we have jumped up to fifth in the Premier League table with 54 points from 32 matches. We are just three points off the fourth spot, which gives us confidence that the team can still make it into the CL.
