Manchester United will review security as the club are set to ramp up measures to protect players’ homes from robbery gangs
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to review security after a series of burglaries have taken place across the city, targeting Premier League stars.
Tahith Chong became the fourth Red Devils star to face this issue after three armed robbers broke into his house and stole items including watches and jewellery while holding blades to his throat. This scary incident occurred early in the morning when the player was at his house while recovering from a groin injury.
This incident comes after Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Victor Lindelof’s houses were also raided by groups of armed burglars, posing a threat to the security of these players and families who reside in the area. Apart from these Man United players, Manchester City star Joao Cancelo was also the victim of a robbery in recent times.
These incidents have taken place over the last few months, which has raised the importance of security to protect players, especially foreign ones, that have moved countries with their families and sacrificed a lot to play abroad. To then be attacked by robbers will unsettle these stars and make them wary of their family’s safety off the pitch.
Strengthen security around homes
Given the dire situation affecting these players outside the football pitch, a source at United has now revealed that the club is working with its players to ‘review and strengthen the security around their homes’. This is positive news to hear about, and something that the players will be grateful for.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick also commented on the situation, saying that the club will speak to the players about what actions can be taken to increase security. Hopefully, we see the Old Trafford side back up their words with strong actions and assure their stars of a safe future for their homes and families.
Football players spend a lot of time away from their homes and families, training and working hard on the pitch to provide for their folks and ensure that they are well taken care of. After all, their close ones also sacrifice a lot in order for these footballers to pursue their dreams, often in foreign locations.
In such a situation, to hear that their homes and families have been burgled and the safety of their loved ones is at risk is devastating to hear. Apart from all the pressure on the pitch, the mental stress of worrying about their family off the pitch is equally hard to handle.

In light of the raids, other Man United stars including Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo have hired their own security to deal with these recent armed robberies. While the former has hired a minder to move into his house and owns a £25,000 guard dog to patrol his estate, the latter has hired twin brothers, who served in an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan, to protect his family.
Apart from these personal measures, we can hope that our favourite stars are backed by the club to ensure their safety. Given all that they do for the Manchester side, the least they can expect is some security for their loved ones in such dire and scary times.
