Manchester United could possibly make a move for Sporting CP attacker Pedro Goncalves
According to Jornal de Noticias (h/t Sports Witness), Manchester United are ‘attentive’ to the possibility of signing Sporting CP ace, Pedro Goncalves at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old attacker was once being compared to Bruno Fernandes with the rumour mill running havoc around him. Though the buzz may have substantially decreased at this moment it is understood that Goncalves could be open to a move away from the Portuguese club before the start of the next season.
It is believed that there was interest for the Leões midfielder before the start of the season but no concrete offer was put on the table. The player would be comfortable with a move this time around should there be a solid deal in place. The Portuguese professional is currently valued at €35m by Transfermarkt as mentioned by Sports Witness.
The Portuguese attacker has bagged 14 goals and 10 assists in 33 matches across all competitions for Sporting CP so far in this season. Pedro Goncalves who is majorly deployed as a right-winger can also be deployed on the left flank and the middle of the park should the need arise.
This kind of versatility gives another dimension to his game also allowing the manager to make suitable rotations according to the situation at hand. At 23, the player still has some of his prime footballing years ahead of him and could develop a great deal.
The Old Trafford outfit are undergoing a bit of a rebuild at the moment after having an underwhelming time in recent memory. The Red Devils haven’t lifted a single major trophy in five years which is an alarming concern for a top club like Manchester United.
Goncalves could therefore be a great acquisition with an eye for the future. He could add some more venom to the attacking department at Man Utd which have struggled to open up opposition defences in recent outings.
Whilst the club could do with another versatile attacker, the club needs to instil a stronger mentality within its players if it is to make any progress in the immediate future. The club are currently in pursuit of an enigmatic manager and Erik ten Hag has been strongly linked to the managerial role at Old Trafford.

We hope that this could help usher us into a new era. Whilst Goncalves could be open to a move before the start of next season, there seems to be interest from clubs in other countries as well. In light of such developments, Manchester United may have to make a firm decision before the end of this campaign, if they are genuinely interested in the Portuguese midfielder.
