Transfer News: Manchester United, Liverpool, and Man City to battle for Scottish sensation Rory Wilson
According to Daily Star, Manchester United are locked in a battle with Liverpool and Manchester City for Scottish starlet Rory Wilson.
The 16-year-old wonderkid is becoming a hot prospect in England with the top clubs vying for his services. The names of Newcastle United and Leeds United have also been thrown into the fray with respect to Wilson.
The teenager has been offered a professional contract by the Gers but it is believed that he will turn it down. This has put the Premier League clubs on high alert as scouts from United viewed his stellar performance for Scotland U17s in a 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic this week. The young striker managed to net two goals in that game.
It is thought that whichever club manages to lure him may have to shell out £300,000 in compensation for his services. The 16-year-old striker has put up some mind-boggling numbers already netting 40 goals for the Rangers youth team so far this campaign.
Rory Wilson to Man Utd?
The teenage striker shows great potential and could go on to become the spine of the attack at Old Trafford should he continue on the same trajectory and sign with us. His exploits at the youth level show great promise but buying a young starlet can be a double-edged sword at times.
The Mancunian club would have to carefully navigate his future and provide him with a suitable environment in which he can continue to develop in a mature manner. A step up to a big club like Man Utd could be a big change for any young budding footballer such as Wilson.
But in all fairness, the club has done well to provide a stage for young attackers such as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga to strut their stuff in recent years.
There seems to be a lot of chaos at Old Trafford in the post-Ferguson era. The Red Devils have spent the most amount of money on transfers in the last decade in Europe’s Top 5 leagues amounting to a £903m net spend.
Despite such heavy backing the club has largely failed to hit the heights that have been expected from them in England and Europe. Whilst many managers have come and gone, no one has quite been able to make a substantial impact at the Red Side of Manchester United.
The Manchester-based club could therefore be looking to rebuild and purchasing young upcoming starlets such as Rory Wilson could be great for the long-term vision of the club. At 16, the Scottish striker could still potentially possess some of his most fruitful footballing years ahead of him.

That being said, the club will have to be wary of the interest from the likes of the other PL clubs if they are genuinely interested in the 16-year-old. It remains to be seen whether or not Rory Wilson makes way to Old Trafford but the idea of piping our bitter rivals to an exciting young prospect could make a potentially good deal even sweeter.
