Manchester United want to wrap up the hunt for a new manager by the end of the month

According to football correspondent David Ornstein of The Athletic (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are looking to appoint their new permanent boss ideally by the end of March and wrap up their managerial hunt in the coming weeks.

The club appointed Ralf Rangnick late last year on an interim basis until the end of the season to guide the side to a top-four finish and ensure they play Champions League football next term, after they dismissed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a poor string of results.

Rangnick is only in charge of the team until the summer, and the German is expected to make way for a new manager to take charge of the Red Devils as they usher in a new era with much expectations.

With the club going through a trophy drought that stretches to five years now, their next managerial appointment has to be spot on to ensure that we are not left settling for mediocrity and go back to the title-winning team everyone knew us to be.

As soon as possible

In January, it was said that the Red Devils intend to settle on their next manager before the end of the season in order to get ahead of their potential plans for the summer. With the 2022/23 season starting earlier than usual on August 6 because of the winter World Cup in Qatar, plans will need to be accelerated to get a hold of things before the new season begins.

Ornstein has now said that United are speeding up the process, meeting candidates, and whittling down their managerial shortlist in order to have a chosen candidate in place at Old Trafford as soon as possible to ensure there are no delays or lags.

Manchester United are currently led by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, multiple managers have come and gone without much success. Out of these, only Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal were able to pick up major trophies in their time at the club.

Rangnick may have a decent record in the Premier League, but he has overseen FA Cup and Champions League exits already this term to ensure that the team finishes trophyless in his debut season in Manchester.

Last summer saw us sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho in an attempt to do better than last season’s second-place finish, but the trio have not been able to perform throughout the current campaign.

Hopefully, we see the club appoint an elite manager by the end of the month – one who knows how to take control of the squad, has a clear game plan, and knows how to utilise players appropriately and to their best potential.
