Manchester United handed price tag for Benfica ace Darwin Nunez amidst Barcelona interest
According to the Portuguese source Record (h/t The Sun), Manchester United have received the latest price tag for Benfica forward Darwin Nunez amidst interest from Barcelona for a future transfer. He recently scored the all-important goal for his side that helped them qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Ajax.
The Portuguese side have increased their valuation for Nunez following their victory as he continued his fine form once again this season. They have decided to slap an asking price of £67million for his signature as Man United and Barca battle to get a hold of the centre-forward. That being said, they will be facing more competition for his services ahead of the next season.
AC Milan and Arsenal have registered their interest to finalise a transfer for the Uruguayan. Newcastle United are also in the mix as they have added him on their radar since the January transfer window. They are set to spend an even higher amount of money this summer as they look to prise him away from the competition.
More obstacles for Man Utd?
The 22-year-old is one of the highly-rated forward options in world football at this moment, and he has certainly proven his worth over the last two years or so. He has taken his game to newer heights this season, which is evident from his 26 goals and two assists from 33 matches across all competitions.
The increased asking price is a bit of a pain for us as it takes away the budget that we could have used in the other areas. That being said, it is certainly understandable why Benfica have raised the valuation, especially considering the potential that the South American is yet to attain.
We are kind of desperate for an addition to the striker department as Edinson Cavani is likely to leave Old Trafford after this term. His contract will be up this summer, and an extension seems not to be on the cards. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, is in the latter stages of his playing career and would need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

Marcus Rashford, who can play there, has struggled to recapture his fine form from the last campaign, whereas we do not know what lies in store for Anthony Martial, who is currently out on loan at Sevilla. Mason Greenwood is probably ruled out indefinitely, which indicates the need for reinforcements.
Nunez would undoubtedly be a great choice, but with several clubs vying to sign him, it would not be easy for us at all. Whether the board can beat off the competition and bring the striker to Carrington or not would only be known in due time.
