Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could be open to Manchester United’s pitch about appointing him their new manager
As per The Athletic (Subscription Required), ‘some believe’ Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is open to the idea of hearing Manchester United and their pitch for appointing him as their new, permanent manager.
United are currently led by Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis until the end of the season, who replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian oversaw a rough patch of form which saw the club slip down the Premier League table.
Rangnick has been tasked with guiding the side back into the top four of the league table, so they can qualify for the Champions League next term. Currently, the Old Trafford side sit fifth in the table.
The Red Devils will also finish the current season without winning any silverware, which extends their trophy drought to five years, having last won the UEFA Europa League in 2017. The new manager will have to fix this issue when appointed.
United monitoring Chelsea’s situation
Given this, Tuchel brings to the side a vast experience of winning trophies, having won the Champions League, Super Cup, and Europa League. Apart from this, he has handled big egos and difficult circumstances in his career, which has caught the attention of United as they monitor Chelsea’s situation.
Although the German has hinted that he will stay on under a new owner in west London, there is no end date for when the crisis at Stamford Bridge dies down. It is said that he would be open to hearing United’s pitch to appoint him as their new manager, given his uncertain future with the Blues.
Any person taking charge of the first team at the Theatre of Dreams will be tasked with leading one of the biggest clubs in the world, with some of the world’s best stars. The job is not easy, as David Moyes found out the hard way when he was appointed manager after spending a few years at Everton.
Since then, multiple managers have come in and out at Manchester with limited success, with none lasting more than three years. Even elite managers like Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal failed to last long at the club, despite winning trophies.

Solskjaer had no trophies on his managerial CV, which may have been why he could not handle the pressures at United. He got the team playing attacking football, and put together a stable team, but the Red Devils still missed out on trophies.
Tuchel has major experience managing the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea while winning major trophies at these clubs. Although he is currently a manager of a rival side, the Blues’ uncertainty could be exploited by us as we steal him away from the current European champions for our benefit. It may look unlikely as of now, but stranger things have happened in football.
