Manchester United receive boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland
According to El Chiringuito (h/t Express), Real Madrid are said to be concerned about signing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer due to his injury record, which has opened the door for Manchester United to try and snap him up for themselves.
Haaland is widely expected to leave Dortmund at the end of the season due to the interest surrounding him from European giants. The player has been one of the world’s most in-form strikers over the past couple of years and could swap the Bundesliga for a more competitive league.
Man United are in the market for a forward ahead of the new campaign to address their goalscoring troubles, and there is hardly anyone more lethal in front of the goal than Haaland at the minute.
Only 21, the player has a stellar scoring record in Germany and Europe with Dortmund, picking up from where he left off while at RB Salzburg. Haaland’s name brings a guarantee of goals, which explains the hype surrounding the Norwegian ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.
Injury concerns
Although it is said that Real and Manchester City are leading the transfer race for the Norway international in the summer, Haaland has also caught the interest of other clubs like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The striker is expected to make a decision on his future soon, and Man United will be keen to have it their way in the summer.
The Red Devils have received a transfer boost in their pursuit of the Dortmund star, with Real said to be far from convinced about his injury record, which has emerged as a particular ‘concern’ for Los Blancos.
While he is considered a freak of nature for his goalscoring exploits, his injury history at Dortmund over the past year has been poor. In the 2021/22 season, the Norwegian has missed 17 games through various issues.
Man United fans know exactly what it feels like to have an injured option upfront, with all due respect to Edinson Cavani’s time at the club. This term, like Haaland, the Uruguayan has barely made any appearances for the club, and only returned from a spell on the sidelines against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Although Real having concerns about signing the 21-year-old is a boost for us in the race to sign him, perhaps we should ask if splashing the cash on an injury-prone player is worth the risk. Despite getting Cavani for free, we know how much we have missed his impact in games where we struggled to break down opposition defences.
There is no doubt that we need a striker at the end of the season, with our current forward options in Cristiano Ronaldo and Cavani on the wrong side of their 30s. A younger replacement is needed, but whether Haaland’s injury record will also prove to be a problem for the Red Devils’ hierarchy remains to be seen.
