Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick hails Cristiano Ronaldo for his “best performance” vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has lavished praise on Cristiano Ronaldo for his “best performance” vs Tottenham Hotspur yesterday. His side won the Premier League clash 3-2 on the night as they saw off the visitors, thanks to the hat-trick scored by the summer signing.

Man United were on the back of a disappointing 4-1 loss to Manchester City coming into this match. Ronaldo made it into the XI after recovering from an injury issue just days before the build-up to the league fixture. However, despite the setbacks, the striker and the team were ready to take the game to Spurs, which was evident in their home performance.

Speaking in an interview with MUTV (h/t Manchester United official website), Rangnick has expressed his delight at Cristiano’s display in yesterday’s match. The boss also hailed the talisman for his excellent training sessions which helped him to start the game despite recently returning from an injury.

“He [Ronaldo] made the difference today for sure. But not only the three goals he scored, also his work rate against the ball when Tottenham was in possession was so far the best performance. Well I didn’t expect him to score three goals, but I expected him to score.”

“That’s why I decided to play him, although he only resumed training on Thursday. His training session on Thursday was so good that’s why I decided to play him from the start and not have him on the bench. In the end, it was the right decision.”

What a display from CR7!

We definitely needed a performance like this one against a team like Antonio Conte’s side to boost our morale after the disappointing derby day result. The Portuguese international was terrific against the Lilywhites, and it was no doubt his “best performance” in this campaign so far, just like the Red Devils coach had mentioned.

With the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie set to take place on Tuesday, this win would give the entire squad some much-needed boost in the build-up to that fixture. Not just that, as this victory further solidifies our chances of a top-four finish even though Arsenal are hot on our heels at the moment- just two points behind with 4 games in hand.

The former Real Madrid man was going through a bit of a rut in the past few fixtures, so the hattrick has helped him put the slump behind in the past. Moreover, we also hope that he would maintain this throughout the remainder of this season as it would greatly boost our chances of enjoying a successful season.

The Premier League superstar also broke a mind-blowing record in yesterday’s victory, becoming FIFA’s all-time record goalscorer in competitive matches. With 807 goals to his name, he has beaten the record held by Josef Bican, who is recognised to have scored 805 times during his career.

With the longevity he has shown, it wouldn’t be a surprise if hits 900 one day. But for now, the most we can hope for is for CR7 to continue this vein of form and fire us to glory in the UEFA Champions League this season.
