Ajax boss Erik ten Hag in contact with Manchester United players amidst managerial job links
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has already made contact with Manchester United players via third parties amidst links to the managerial job at Old Trafford. He has done well at Amsterdam so far and is one of the most highly rated coaches in European football right now.
Ralf Rangnick is currently the manager of Man United on an interim basis until this summer transfer window. The board is searching for a new boss to take over the role permanently from next season onwards. Rangnick is admired by them, but a decision has not been made regarding this subject right now.
Ten Hag is one of the favourites for the job, and he has been using third parties to enquire about the Red Devils squad with the players. The Dutchman is aware that he is a “strong” candidate for them and is thus looking to learn as much as possible about the management and the team at this moment.
Positive signs?
We definitely need to appoint someone like the Ajax coach to lead us moving forward. After all, he has shown more than enough times in the Netherlands that he has the required capabilities to rebuild a team. He has done so with his current team, and with adequate support, the same can be replicated at Carrington.
The constant changes in managers have prevented the club from building a long term identity to ensure stability. Even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had enjoyed enough time to make his case, he was not someone who could revamp the squad to meet the increased challenges in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
Ten Hag can certainly do that, which is evident from the Ajax teams that he has built in a short period of time. As such, it is good to know that he has acknowledged the interest from our side and is eager to learn more about the surroundings at Manchester.
Let’s be real- things have not been rosy for us for quite a long time. Hence, any candidates would probably have doubts about taking over the managerial role next term. Therefore, it is up to the hierarchy to convince their targets that the club is turning over a new leaf in the future.
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson, only perhaps the great Jose Mourinho has come close to making us a team good enough to compete for titles. And even the Portuguese could not lead us to PL glory. So, it is clear that there are big boots to fill at Old Trafford, with every manager under a microscope from the get-go.
