Manchester United star Luke Shaw eyeing Old Trafford contract extension
According to The Guardian, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is open to signing a new contract and extending his stay at the club for a few more years in what is a massive defensive boost for the side.
Shaw moved to Old Trafford from Southampton as a teenager back in 2014 and has since consistently been the team’s first choice at left-back. Despite playing under several managers, Shaw has more often than not been the preferred choice on the left side in defence.
The Englishman is out of contract in the summer of 2023, so the news about the player staying will come as a positive update for the club. Shaw is said to be enjoying playing for the Red Devils and we hope that continues for years to come.
The ex-Saints has worked hard to establish himself in the first team and prove his doubters wrong. Despite being out of action for a while after suffering a near career-ending fracture in 2015, the defender has come out of it strongly and never looked back since.
Possible salary boost for Shaw
In a season that has seen Marcus Rashford reconsider his future and Paul Pogba running down his contract in the summer, Shaw’s willingness to stay at Man United is a massive transfer boost for the club. The club is also looking to usher in a new era in Manchester by appointing a permanent manager at the end of the season, and the left-back could very well be part of it.
Signing a new deal with the Red Devils, the 26-year-old get a rise in his current salary of about £150,000 per week. Despite his contract running out next summer, the club have an option to extend it by a further year, giving themselves enough time to come to a decision.
So far at Old Trafford, Shaw has seen the team win the FA Cup, League Cup, and the Europa League. By staying at Old Trafford for a few more years and playing under a new manager from next season, the defender will look to add to his trophy cabinet.
His performances for Man United have also seen him become a regular for England in the national setup, with the player even scoring for his country in the YEFA Euro 2020 final, which his team, unfortunately, lost on penalties.

Given his current form, Shaw may likely make the national squad for England’s upcoming matches in the international break, as he awaits Gareth Southgate’s call. However, the United player missed his last game in the Premier League against Manchester City due to COVID, so he will first need to recover in time from the virus.
In a month where we face Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, and Liverpool in the coming weeks, Shaw will look to play a crucial part and help the side to victory in order to secure a top-four spot in the league table and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
