Manchester United star Andreas Pereira could see Flamengo transfer collapse at the last minute
According to journalist Mauro Cezar on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Manchester United star Andreas Pereira could see his proposed permanent transfer to Flamengo collapse at the last minute after he was booed off by the club’s fans at the weekend.
Pereira came through the ranks at United’s academy, but has never been able to establish himself in the first team despite making his senior bow way back in 2014. The player moved to Flamengo at the beginning of the current campaign in order to play regular first-team football.
Although he has mostly impressed for the Brazilian side, he has recently had a decline in form and has not been the same player he was when he first moved to Flamengo last summer.
Hardly being able to nail down a starting spot for himself at Old Trafford, the midfielder has spent a majority of his Man United career in loan spells outside England, previously spending time at Granada, Valencia, and Lazio.
Booed off the pitch
Although it is said that Flamengo have agreed to a £9m transfer fee for a permanent transfer move to sign Pereira, it has not been completed. After years of being a fringe player at Old Trafford, the Brazilian could finally depart the club at the end of the current campaign.
However, this move could be in jeopardy due to events that transpired in Brazil this weekend. The Man United loanee featured for Flamengo on Saturday as his side beat Vasco da Gama 2-1, but it was Pereira’s mistake in the game that led to the opponent’s equaliser. This led to fans booing him when he was substituted later on in the match.
The 26-year-old was finally set to be handed a career lifeline at Flamengo after years of warming the bench at Man United, but his latest performance for the Brazilian side did himself no favours after the fans turned on him.
The star has not been the worst player for his new club, contributing to five goals and helping Flamengo finish second in the Brazilian Serie A in 2021. However, he seems to have declined in recent weeks, which could cause the club to consider signing him in the summer.

Although not a bad player, he has never been able to settle into the first team at the Theatre of Dreams due to the competition in the squad. Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are not easy to demote from a starting lineup, with players like Donny van de Beek also having to move to Everton on loan to get more playing time this season.
Even if his proposed permanent move to Flamengo falls through, there is no guarantee that he will become a starter at Old Trafford next season. For Pereira’s sake, we can hope that the weekend’s events were an isolated incident and he wins back the fans before the summer to earn his move to the Brazilian side.
