Manchester United looking to keep forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial beyond the summer
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have every intention to keep strikers Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial at the club beyond the summer, if at all possible.
Both forwards have not been at their scintillating best this season, especially Ronaldo, who is known to be a world-class forward who has everything in his kitty to score goals for his side. It is for this very reason that Man United re-signed their former player, in a bid to add more goals to their squad.
Martial meanwhile failed to impress new interim manager Ralf Rangnick and is currently plying his trade at Sevilla after he secured a loan move in last month’s winter transfer window.
Although the club is keen to retain the services of both players next campaign, there are question marks about the futures of both forwards due to their current form in front of goal while playing for United. Ronaldo has been a regular feature this term but has failed to hit his usual heights.
Shortage of goals
The biggest problem United have faced this season is a shortage of goals upfront, as the club have had numerous matches where the side have been unable to extend their lead and have eventually succumbed to a draw. This issue was made clear recently as the Red Devils were held to yet another draw at home, but this time, they could not find the net at all.
Luckily for Rangnick, the emergence of Anthony Elanga has been a blessing as the club have someone else to depend on for goals and provide a different edge in attack. Jadon Sancho seems to be getting back to the form that we all saw from him in the Bundesliga, making for vibrant attack options if everything comes together.
Although the recent game against Watford saw all of Man United’s forwards score a blank in front of goal, there have been flashes of occasional brilliance smattered across the season. Since the turn of the year, Sancho has steadily added to his goals and assists tally while Elanga has turned into a fan favourite, especially after his cool finish against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week.
Ronaldo meanwhile, is the sole reason for Man United to get this far in the Champions League, with the former Juventus forward responsible for all of the side’s late winners and equalisers in the group stages of the continental competition. More is expected of him in next month’s second leg against Atletico at Old Trafford.

Martial moved to Sevilla in search of regular game time, and if his half-a-season in Spain works out well, we can welcome back a player who can supply the goals for us next season. Only time will tell what happens during Martial’s time in La Liga.
Man United meanwhile, will do well to hold on to Ronaldo and Martial next season as they look to retain two proven goalscorers. This season may not have been their best, but there is no telling what could happen if the pair discover their form ahead of the next campaign to help the Manchester club with goals.
