According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has urged the club to sign RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele this summer.

Man United’s current right-back options at the club include the defensive Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the forward-minded Diogo Dalot. Both players are extremely different in their approach to the game, which gives the club options as per the situation.

Mukiele has been identified by the Red Devils’ manager as a new signing for the full-back position this summer, as the Manchester club to add more reinforcements to their side and build a strong squad ahead of the new season.

Rangnick is familiar with Mukiele’s qualities, as the Frenchman played under the current United boss during his time in the Bundesliga. Despite only having spent a single season together, the German seems to be impressed with the defender’s abilities as he has asked his current club to keep an eye on the player.

Rangnick’s seal of approval

Rangnick is expected to be relieved of his managerial duties at the end of the season when his time as interim boss comes to an end. It is not yet clear as to whether or not he gets a strong say in transfer dealings, but he seems to be intent on helping United while he is in charge.

Mukiele certainly seems to be a defender who can contribute to both attack and defence, with the France international scoring 10 goals and registering 8 assists in 136 appearances for Leipzig since his debut for the German club.

The summer is expected to be a busy time for Man United, as the club expects a new permanent manager and along with him, a host of signings so that the incoming boss has players that he wants to work with in order to fire the club to glory.

Amongst the big names rumoured to move to the club, Mukiele’s name is the latest one to be added to the hat. The right-back may prove to be an excellent addition to the Manchester side’s defence, and provide good competition to Wan-Bissaka and Dalot.

If the Red Devils manage to sign him, then they will have an excellent roster of relatively young right-backs at their disposal. Both Mukiele and Wan-Bissaka are 24, while Dalot is 22. Youth is a key element of the club’s DNA, and this proves just that.

Having already gotten Rangnick’s seal of approval, only time will tell if the club hierarchy decides to take the plunge and sign the Frenchman. The new manager will definitely have a say in transfer dealings, so we will have to wait and watch to see if Mukiele is destined to play at Old Trafford by the start of the next campaign.
