PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino reject Manchester United for Real Madrid job
According to Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t The Sun), PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has decided to reject Manchester United in favour of the managerial job at Real Madrid. His current role at Paris is at risk of coming to an end if his team does not meet the expectations of the club’s board.
Paris Saint-Germain could decide to sack Pochettino in the future if he fails to attain the sought-after Champions League this season. Man United have pursued him for quite a long time and tried to sign him last year before the Ligue 1 side intervened and put an end to it.
However, the Argentinian has passed on the opportunity to move to Old Trafford, having set eyes on the job at Los Blancos. A move to the Spanish capital could happen due to his long-standing desire of managing the Madrid club and due to Carlo Ancelotti’s uncertain future at the club right now.
Tough blow
Ralf Rangnick is currently managing only on an interim basis and is expected to take a backroom role from the next campaign onwards. Knowing that we may have missed out on Poch closes the door on one very good, PL-tested option.
As such, the board must solve the potential issue that could unravel in the summer transfer window. After all, we would want a proven, quality coach who can build a long-term project and get us back to fighting for trophies on all fronts.
That being said, we could still push to sign the Ligue 1 coach to see if there is a change in the current circumstances in the coming months ahead of next summer. After all, crazier things have happened in football.
Poch would have to leave PSG and Madrid would have to let Ancelotti go if this move is to happen in the near future. If any of the wheels fall off in this potential move, United would be smart to jump at the opportunity.
Thankfully, we have other options on the shortlist apart from the former Southampton boss. Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is being touted as one of the choices, whereas Erik ten Hag of Ajax is another one of the candidates.
