Manchester United will not stand in the way of Cristiano Ronaldo should he demand to leave
According to Mirror, Manchester United could let star forward Cristiano Ronaldo depart the club again should he ask to leave in the near future.
The Portuguese international came to the limelight during his first spell at Old Trafford under former boss Sir Alex Fergusson. He subsequently moved to Real Madrid and had a career filled with individual and team accolades.
Ronaldo had an emotional homecoming last summer, but with recent developments, the club and the player could part ways if the latter asks for the same. The former Juventus player has had an impressive return to Man United, bagging 15 goals and chipping away with three assists in 28 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
Whilst the Old Trafford outfit are currently situated in fourth position on the Premier League table, the likes of West Ham United and Arsenal are not too far behind. This could set up for a crunch showdown towards the business end of the season as the Manchester-based club could have to persist and fight hard for a UEFA Champions League spot.
Ronaldo to leave?
The veteran forward could be looking to depart the club on the off-chance that they do not qualify for the CL next season. Despite being a prolific goalscorer at 37, the Portugal international may well want to compete at the highest level in Europe considering that he is in the twilight years of his career.
Ronaldo has also looked a tad out of place at times in Ralf Rangnick’s system. This could warrant grave issues as Edinson Cavani will also be out of contract at the end of the season. The Red Devils still have Anthony Martial, who is on loan to Sevilla at the moment, but his lack of consistency in a Manchester United jersey has been a troubling affair in the last couple of seasons.
Should Ronaldo depart the club, the Old Trafford outfit will likely have to dip in the market to hunt for a new striker. The talismanic Englishman Harry Kane has been linked with a move to Old Trafford recently. The 28-year-old striker’s experience in the PL and his proven track record in previous campaigns could be a big plus should the deal happen, but this pursuit wouldn’t be easy or a cheap affair by the looks of it.
